ELA B30 looks at the Self and Society while reading World Literature. We look at the two big themes: The Search for Self and The Social Experience.  Each theme has several subthemes. This course is very much theme driven and the literature and ideas are always central to the theme.

We will read A Thousand Splendid Suns a novel by Khaled Hosseini and Hamlet by Shakespeare as well as several short stories, essays and poems to help us see how others experience their search for self, ideals, emotions like joy adn inspiration and doubt and fear. We will also look at the social experience and how people deal with universal issues, ambition, power and greed and social criticism.
